News Archive » Mullen & Niarchos Unlucky at Brands September 20, 2010 CRS Racing’s Klaas Hummel and Chris Goodwin took their first top ten finish of 2010 at Brands Hatch yesterday. The duo took ninth place in the second of the two International GT Open races held at the Kent circuit. Chris Niarchos and Tim Mullen meanwhile had a very difficult weekend and had to endure two non-finishes that were not of their own doing. In race one Tim Mullen got away well from pole position, kept the lead and started to build up a gap. Eight laps into the race he radioed in to say that the rear of the car felt a little loose and this left him unable to defend the lead. Luckily for CRS the safety car came out to deal with an incident on the track so Tim dived into the pits to let the team look at the car. His left rear tyre didn’t look too good so the mechanics quickly changed it and sent him on his way. By this point Tim had dropped down the order but with a fully-functioning car he was ready to go on the attack at the restart. At the restart a Porsche spun in front of the No.91 CRS Ferrari, leaving Tim with nowhere to go and he had to retire with a burst radiator. Klaas Hummel survived the restart but found himself in the gravel after contact with a Mosler damaged his tracking. He made it back to the pits but with damaged tracking he had to retire. Race two was looking a lot happier for CRS. Chris Goodwin got away well and was in sixth before handing over to Klaas. The Dutchman did a great job to stay out of trouble and bring the Ferrari home in ninth place. Chris Niarchos also got a good start but he was rudely speared off at Druids on the first lap. Once his car was recovered from the deep gravel there he returned to the pits but too much time had been lost to rejoin the race and compete for points. “I think most teams have a weekend to forget in every season and I think this was ours,” said CRS Managing Director, Mark Busfield. “It’s frustrating to be taken out of a race through no fault of your own. Congratulations to Klaas though for finishing ninth. Remember this is only his second year of international level racing so he’s doing a great job.” ENDS |
